Archaeological visits to Puig de Sitges

The tour allows you to discover Puig de Sitges in Iberian and Roman times and, above all, the legacy and ancient history of the town. The tour cycle will begin on September 20.

The Department of Culture of Sitges City Council is once again scheduling guided tours of the old town this year with the aim of bringing the town's archaeological heritage closer to citizens and visitors.

The tours will take place on Saturdays September 20 (in Catalan) and 27 (in Spanish), October 18 (in Catalan), November 8 (in Spanish), November 15 (in Catalan) and November 22 (in Spanish).

The activity is free and open to everyone, and does not require prior registration.

The tour will begin at 5 p.m. in the Town Hall Square and will last approximately two hours. During the journey, participants will be able to see first-hand the main places in the old town where archaeological excavations have been carried out. Some of the most relevant pieces found over more than three decades of research in the Puig de Sitges will also be on display, the result of archaeological monitoring of public and private works. Among the most outstanding elements are the fragment of the medieval wall of Carrer Major and the display cases with archaeological remains located in the lobby of the Casa de la Vila.

The visits, led by archaeologist Joan García Targa, offer an immersion in the ancient history of Sitges and allow a better understanding of what the Puig was like in Iberian and Roman times. This initiative, which has been organized since 2017, has become a consolidated opportunity to disseminate the historical and archaeological legacy of the municipality and to highlight heritage as a tool for knowledge and cultural cohesion.
