GUIDED TOUR OF THE EXHIBITION *ABSENCES AND PRESENCES. THE ARTISTS OF CHARLES DEERING IN THE BANC SABADELL ART COLLECTION*
11 a.m. Catalan / 12 p.m. Spanish
Maricel Museum
Free activity with limited capacity. Prior booking required via museusdesitges.cat or at the reception of the Sitges Museums.
The industrialist, philanthropist and collector Charles Deering built Maricel de Terra (today the Maricel Palace) to display his collection of Hispanic art, gathering some of the masterpieces of medieval Catalan art and early Spanish art, with names such as El Greco, Zurbarán or Goya. However, at his residence in Sitges he assembled an important collection of contemporary artists, now dispersed across various countries.
The exhibition aims to reconstruct the absences of Catalan and Spanish artists from the early 20th century, based on the presences of the artists found in the Banc Sabadell Art Collection. Ramon Casas, Santiago Rusiñol, Hermenegild Anglada-Camarasa, Joaquim Sunyer, Darío de Regoyos, Ignacio Zuloaga, Joaquim Mir or Josep Maria Sert, among others, will once again occupy the walls of Maricel de Mar (today the Maricel Museum), in dialogue with historical images that rediscover the splendour of the monument and reveal the path of Catalan art that captivated the American collector.
A symbolic return of the great artists who once captivated Charles Deering in Sitges.
