Cinema on the beach of La Fragata returns in July

• Throughout the 4 sessions, the films Volveréis (July 9), Flow (July 16), L'edat imminent (July 23) and Salvatges (July 30) will be screened. Before the screening of each film, two short films will also be shown that will allow you to discover emerging talent.
• Admission will be free and no prior reservation is required.

The beach of La Fragata will once again become an open-air cinema on Wednesdays 9, 16, 23 and 30 July to screen the films Volveréis, Flow, L'edat imminent and Salvatges, respectively.

The Sitges City Council is organizing this cycle called “Cinema Lliure a la Platja” for the fourth consecutive year, which combines the magic of independent and auteur cinema in an incomparable setting by the sea. In addition, the program of this film festival also includes, for the second consecutive year, two animated films: Flow and Salvatges.
As a novelty, before each film, two short films selected within the Filmets Festival and the Nou Talent call, which gives a voice to students from film schools in Catalonia and the Balearic Islands, will also be screened. The four film nights will begin at 9:30 p.m. (approximately) and attendees will be able to access them freely because the entrance is free.
Program

The program will start on July 9 with the film Volveréis by director and screenwriter Jonás Trueba, which revolves around the story of a couple who separates and decides to have a party to celebrate. Itsaso Arana, also co-writer of this film, stars in the film alongside Vito Sanz, Andrés Gertrúdix and Francesco Carril, among others. In 2024, Volveréis won the Europa Cinemas Label, the most important award of the Cannes Film Festival's Filmmakers' Fortnight.

The animated film Flow by GintsZilbalodises will be screened on July 16. It is a story starring a cat who wakes up in a world covered in water, in which it seems that the human race has disappeared. Faced with a landscape transformed by a great flood, he seeks refuge on a boat where there are other animals and they all have to learn to live together, overcome their differences and adapt to this new world. The film without dialogues and with a completely visual narrative offers an immersive experience that excites young and old from all over the world. Co-produced by Belgium, Latvia and France, this animation gem has won many awards, including the Oscar for Best Animated Feature and the Golden Globe.

The film offering will continue on July 23 with the film L'edat imminent. Miquel Mas Martínez and Antonia Fernández Mir lead the cast of this family drama that deals with the story of Bruno, who takes care of his grandmother Nati while he works and lives his youth, until he has to face letting go of the only family he has known, since the woman has obtained a public place in a residence. This Catalan film is the debut of the Vigília Collective, formed by six alumni of the Pompeu Fabra University.

The program will close on July 30 with Salvatges, a stop-motion animated film about deforestation and indigenous cultures. Set in Borneo, the film stars Kéria who finds a baby orangutan in the oil palm plantation where her father works. The two, with the help of Selaï, her cousin, will fight against the destruction of the forest, an adventure that will allow her to connect with her origins. The film is an ecological fable directed by Claude Barras, which has been screened at the prestigious festivals of Cannes, Annecy, Locarno and Sitges.
