The Santiago Rusiñol Library is celebrating its 90th anniversary with a programme of activities that will run until June 2027 to commemorate nearly a century of work promoting reading, culture, and knowledge in Sitges.
The institutional event will take place on Thursday, June 11 at 6:30 p.m. in front of the library. The day will revive a common practice at the Santiago Rusiñol Library until the 1980s: the librarians’ diaries. The La Tija theatre group will perform a dramatized reading of diaries dating back 50 years, describing the daily life of the librarians.
The second event is a storytelling session led by storyteller Moi Aznar, on Wednesday, June 17 at 6:30 p.m. outside the building. ‘Around the World in a Few Stories’ is a storytelling and animation performance in which Moi Aznar moves around the library space on a tricycle. During the activity, the audience accompanies the storyteller with the aim of enjoying the stories and the magic of oral storytelling.
The Santiago Rusiñol Library will pay tribute to Miquel Utrillo, former owner of the building. A plaque will be unveiled in the lobby explaining the origins of the library and its founding in 1936. In addition, there will be exhibitions in the display cases at the entrance, and visitors will be invited to write congratulatory messages on cards that recall the old index cards used in library catalogues.
