Run for Them Against PKU

The Run for Them Against PKU Race celebrates its tenth anniversary this Sunday. The race is 5 km long, with the start and finish at the Jardins de Terramar, and the money raised will go towards the development of a biosensor to control this disease.

The Run for Them Against PKU charity race reaches its first 10 editions this Sunday. The start is scheduled for 10am from the Jardins de Terramar, which will also host the finish. People who want to participate in this charity initiative can still register at www.sitgescorreperells.org, where donations can also be made. Race bibs will be collected at the Casino Prado, this Saturday from 5pm to 8pm, or on Sunday at 9am at the Jardins de Terramar itself, although in the latter case the availability of all sizes is not guaranteed.

This is a popular and solidarity 5 km race, where all proceeds are donated to the PKU and Other Inherited Metabolic Disorders Foundation, in order to develop a biosensor that improves the quality of life of affected people. This is a project that is being developed by the Metabolic Diseases Laboratory of the Hospital de Sant Joan de Déu de Barcelona. At the end of the race, prizes will be awarded to the top three finishers in each category and to the first local place. There will also be surprise prize draws among all participants in the race.

The PKU and Other Inherited Metabolic Disorders Foundation is a non-profit organization founded in 2018 by a group of parents from the Catalan Association of Inherited Metabolic Disorders PKU/ATM. Its objective is to meet the needs of affected people and provide help and support to patients and their families, to improve their quality of life. We also work to improve all those issues that these disorders may affect, with the ultimate aim of ensuring a better relationship between those affected and the environment in which they live, providing them with all the tools possible to ensure their equal opportunities within society.
